What to pack for an autumn break

To roll or fold… that is the question.

Packing light in the autumn becomes inherently more difficult than packing in the summer as clothing tends to be heavier and bulkier. We recommend you forget about packing light and pack clever. Follow our guide on how to transition your summer weekend bag to an autumn one.

  1. A statement coat
What kind of coat you take depends on what the weather is looking like. However it could be useful to take a multi-tasking one e.g. retractable hood, waterproof. Keep the colour neutral (grey, camel, back) so it goes with all outfits. You could never mix it up and go for an on trend blazer… might be a perfect alternative if the weather isn’t quite coat appropriate yet.

  2. Shoes
Two pairs are enough. Repeat after me… two pairs are enough. Black ankle boots will be your best friend, but make sure they’re comfy. They go with everything whether that is a long sleeve dresses jeans and a top even a night out outfit. They really are a safe bet when you’re restricted on space as they are so versatile. Secondly, trainers. Flat, comfortable, stylish… name a better duo?

  3. Jeans
One pair of trusty jeans. Grey, black, light blue, dark blue, mom style, and skinny you have a lot to narrow down. However black or dark blue are always a safe bet, especially in the autumn winter time with the non-consistent weather changes. Jeans are a real life saver when you just don’t know what to wear; and can be easily paired with so many items.

  4. Thinner layers
Layering is key when packing for an autumn get away because the weather is so unpredictable. Whether it’s a roll neck, long sleeve, t-shirts, cardigans, layers give you endless options. You can choose bold statement coloured pieces, as well as neutral layers to mix and match, spice up outfits and reduce the risk of an outfit repeat.

  5. Tights
Oh summer, how we will miss you. But we will not miss the upkeep of having silky smooth tanned legs 24/7. Tights are essential in an autumn wardrobe, whether you want extra warmth under your jeans, or if you’ve accepted the fact it’s just to damn cold to have your bare legs out with a dress.

  6. Umbrella
Self explanatory. You know you’ll need it.

  7. Day dresses/slip skirts
You can still keep a hint of summer in your weekend away wardrobe. A simply day dress or slip skirt can be dressed down with a tee (or layered) and trainers or dressed up on an evening with a pair of sleek black boots.

Oh, and the answer is… ROLL.
