Essentials for an Autumn Break
Temperatures have fallen and the clocks have gone back – Winter is officially on its way. But how do you pack for an autumn getaway without having to upsize your bag to fit in all those jumpers and heavy coats? It’s simple – forget about packing light and pack smart with our top five wardrobe essentials for an autumn break.
1. A good coat is an autumn wardrobe staple
A must-have for any wardrobe, the right autumn coat can be worn with any outfit. Think sharp tailoring in a heavier fabric like wool. Either keep it neutral in grey, camel or black or go all out statement in bold colours. If the weather forecast is looking changeable, you might want to make sure it can turn a shower…
2. Autumn footwear
Two pairs are enough. Repeat after me… two pairs are enough. Ankle boots go with everything – but make sure they’re comfortable enough. If you’re planning on doing a lot of walking around, your second set of shoes should always be a pair of trainers – you’re on holiday, not on an endurance test and there’s nothing worse than blisters
3. Jeans should be in every suitcase
The right pair can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Black or dark blue are always the safest bet – they can be paired with a jumper during the day and an elegant top for an evening out.
4. Autumn layers
Thanks to Bristol’s unpredictable weather, layering is key when packing for an autumn getaway. There should always be a couple of tees for when the sun comes out (it does, we promise!) and a heavier jumper for snuggling into when there’s a chill in the air. Spice up your outfit with some bold statement coloured pieces as well as neutral layers to mix and match.
5. Autumn scarves
Even with the best of planning, you can’t predict the weather and nights may be chillier than you bargained for – come prepared with an autumn scarf. Think autumnal colours in a lighter fabric that can easily be stashed in your bag.
